Nursery History

Why hydrangea, and so many hydrangeas in Taupont?

The story begins in 1988, when Mr. Alain Dussine decides to create a nursery dedicated to hydrangea, at the location called Le Haut-Bois. Descended from parents and grandparents who produced hydrangeas in the Anjou region, he then undertook to plant the entire collection his ancestors had assembled in open ground. The goal was to offer rare plants to his customers, namely adult hydrangeas and collections.

In 2008, Ronan Garin was given the nursery he had dreamed of while on the benches of the Saint-Ilan High School in Langueux. Ronan discovered the nursery during his BTS Horticultural Production internship, then was employed by the company for six months before running it.

Today in 2020 the nursery spans nearly thirteen hectares and has seen its demand and its collection increase thanks to varietal improvements, crossbreeding, and explorations by our botanist friends. More than 50,000 plants are cultivated there in open ground at the “Les hortensias du Haut-Bois” nursery. Thus our small town of Taupont has become renowned for its hydrangeas and the nursery received in January 2016 the town medal for “our commitment and professional dynamism that honors the town of Taupont”.

In addition to the town of Taupont, it is the neighboring town of Ploërmel which in 2000 planted more than 5,500 hydrangea plants to create “The hydrangea circuit”.

The passion for hydrangeas is then transmitted!
