Light exposure for hydrangeas

Light exposure depends on where you plant your hydrangeas. For any planting project located south of the Bordeaux/Lyon line, I recommend placing all hydrangeas in partial shade or full shade. These conditions will help them withstand the intense heat characteristic of those regions. For areas north of this line, I invite you to follow the guidance provided on each plant’s care label, explained below.

Key:

Full sun: This variety tolerates a sunny position all day long.

Full sun / Partial shade: This variety tolerates a sunny position all day long, but flowering will last longer in partial shade.

— Partial shade: This variety thrives in dappled light throughout the day, or generally in good morning sun with shade in the afternoon.

— Shade: This variety needs to be in the shade all day, in a space that nonetheless remains sufficiently bright.
